Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is one of the most common procedures used primarily for the treatment of male infertility. In the ICSI process, a single sperm is selected and injected directly into each egg. The difference between traditional IVF and IVF with ISCI is that with traditional IVF, sperm naturally penetrates an egg in the laboratory whereas in IVF with ISCI, each egg is individually injected with a single sperm.
ISCI is usually recommended when the problem concerns male fertility, such as:
- low sperm count;
- poor morphology of sperm;
- poor motility of sperm;
- the need of surgical collection of sperm due to the blockage;
- prior unsuccessful attempt to fertilize eggs with IVF;
- use of frozen sperm quality of which is not high;
To conclude ICSI is performed as part of IVF and it is considered to be one of the most effective means to treat male infertility.
Medvisit Global offers different services for fertility treatment including IVF with or without ICSI.
