Part of the process of meeting a surrogate mother chosen by an agency involves the first face to face communication with her (if intended parents are willing to).  This is a tremendous opportunity to introduce yourself to the surrogate and her family and help her get a feel for you who you are and what your lifestyle is like.

It may seem awkward but you will be sharing many personal moments during your journey and this is the first impression you can make upon the woman who may help you make your dreams come true.

Here are some helpful tips that can give you a basic idea for your message.

1. Start by saying ,,thank you’’ It sounds very easy but unfortunately, a lot of people forget to do this, and words of gratitude are always an appropriate beginning and ending of the conversation.
2. You may t want to tell the Surrogate Mother why you wanted/decided to become parents, and give her little history about your challenges when it comes to parenthood. It is essential to balance between being honest and avoiding too many details which could be overwhelming. Let her know that she is the one who can bring happiness and hope back to your life.
3. It is also important to address what kind of support the surrogate can expect from you, how often you can visit her, and what kind of communication you will have. The most pleasant surrogacy journeys are based on positive communication which is mainly up to you to manage. Intended parents should always give realistic expectations for surrogate mothers and the promises they definitely know will be kept. 
4. As important as words can be, the pictures intended parents bring to a surrogate mother are effective: Please talk about your pets, if you have any, and include photos.  If you have wedding pictures, pictures of your extended family, holidays, your home, friends, etc. the surrogate and her family will love these.
5. There is no minimum or maximum length of your conversation, the most important thing is that it is sincere and comes from the heart. Some people put a lot of effort into these letters and get very creative.  I have seen scrapbooks, binders, even videos with music.
