Vaccination is not only important for a baby's immune system but it is also a challenging experience for parents as immunization is often followed with complications such as pain, fever, mood swings and so on. We are here to help you out with the tips that can ease the process and comfort your little one while getting shots.
There is a well-known and effective method called "5 S's"
1. Swaddling - an age-old practice of wrapping infants in blankets or similar cloths so that movement of the limbs is tightly restricted
2. Side/Stomach - when it comes to getting shots, place your bay on her/his side or stomach
3. Shushing - make shushing sounds in your baby's ear
4. Suck - while getting vaccines, let the baby suck on a pacifier, bottle or simply use breastfeeding.
5. Swing - Swing your baby in your arms
Sugar is extremely helpful in babies especially under 6 months. Give your baby a little sugary water before the injection, or dip a pacifier into the sweet liquid and let her/him suck on it during the vaccination.
Also, it is crucial to stay calm while your baby is being injected as your emotions reflect on him/her. Take comfort in knowing that the vaccination pain your baby feels will only last a moment, but the protection from disease will last for years.
