IVF does not necessarily lead to multiple pregnancy, however compared to natural conception, IVF increases the chances of having twins, triplets, and multiple births. 

In 2011, the European IVF Monitoring Consortium reported a 19.2% multiple birth rate after IVF treatment, whereas in the USA, data published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed that about 46% of newborns in 2011 following IVF were either twins or higher order multiple.
