The very first step of your surrogacy and/or egg donation journey is to confirm your eligibility for the program as an intended (genetic) father. Usually the surrogacy and egg donation agencies ask for results of a standard blood test, urine test and a semen analysis. Some clinics perform screening for genetic disease and chromosomal abnormalities. Requirements and terms for medical eligibility for the genetic father may vary depending on the specific clinic and/or agency.

Usually most clinics and agencies request for results to be no older than 3 months by the time of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), but  this validity period may vary depending on the clinic or agency and should be clarified directly in advance.

At some clinics the screening process includes a quarantine period, during which samples are frozen for at least 6 months that is followed by re-testing for Sexually Transmitted Disease. This is to rule out any new infection.

What should be included in the semen analysis?

• Percentage of normal/abnormal morphology

Based on the results of the medical tests, doctor can recommend some supplements. In case of infectious disease shown in blood test, the doctor may suggest sperm washing procedure to remove the infectious material from sperm.
